What is AiRO?
How does AiRO compare to a real wind tunnel?
What data does AiRO produce?
Why is aero testing crucial?
Time trial bikes and equipment are much like F1 cars. The fastest equipment only works well in a small window of adjustment, with a large number of individually variable components. For this reason, even the most state-of-the art bike and kit can perform poorly when not adjusted properly. The difference between a “good” and “bad” setup can often be as much as 10%, event for high level athletes. If you want to use your bike to it´s full potential, aero testing is an absolute must.
Who is aero testing for?
This service is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their race performance and finishing times.
No matter if you are a beginner or professional, aero testing will markedly improve your race speed regardless of the discipline (We offer testing for TT/Tri, Track, road and even gravel bikes).
What are the benefits of AiRO CFD analysis?
Testing via AiRO is particularly useful when starting out with aero optimization. It allows for quick, iterative changes that are not possible via physical testing.
The narrowed down helmet and position options are then a great baseline for velodrome testing, where we can validate the setup in combinations with different equipment choices.
When should you do aero testing?
Aero testing is recommended whenever there is a significant change in your equipment or position – in order to verify and improve their performance for key events.
Different bikes also favor different positions and equipment combinations, so aero testing is a must in these cases.
How many watts can I save with aero testing?
Typical savings range between 15-30W @45km/h or a roughly 10% CdA reduction – even with advanced riders.
A detailed aero test report from AiRO will be generated after each session and sent over to the rider via email.
What can I test?
AiRO allows for a near unlimited range of position testing (based on your own virtual mannequin) for dropbar and TT/Tri/Pursuit bikes and a wide range of helmet models from top manufacturers.
The scope of your test options will depend on the package you opt for = number of simulations performed.
A biomechanically correct and sustainable position is necessary as a base for your aero testing (whether it is CFD or velodrome testing).
For this reason, we highly recommend starting off with a bikefit.
We also offer combined fitting + CFD sessions, which you can book here.
How can I get tested with AiRO?
The base of all AiRO testing is your virtual mannequin – a digital model of your body. All we need to create it is a set of high-definition pictures of you in riding gear in front of an uncluttered background. For the best possible results, we highly recommend booking an in-person session (in-person sessions require a booking deposit). This way, we take the photos in our pre-set studio and ensure the best possible quality of the inputs.
HOWEVER, we also offer the possibility to perform remote testing, where the client provides the photo inputs. For these, we will send over a set of instructions that will guide you through the correct way of taking the input photos.
